NEON is an MMSD alternative for middle school-age students with an emotional/behavioral disability (EBD) who have not been successful in a full-day program at their home school dispite numerous and varied interventions including, but not limited to, cricullium modafications, small group instructions, structured behavior/ motivcational systems, other behavioral intervention based upon identified functions of the students behavior, ect. NEON students typically spend part of their school day at the NEON site and spend at their home school. NEON provides individualized academic, socal, and emotional programing ia an alternative setting and in community enviorments to maximize the likelihood that each student demonstrates successful, responsible citizenship. the goals for students in the NEON program are:

 

To experience successful academic achievement.

 

To develop appropriate social skills.

 

To learn and demonstrate ways to express their

emotions that are safe for themselves and others

 

To identify and work toward personal goals.

 

To develop skills necessary for success in achieving their personal goals.

There are six diffrent classes to choose depending on the student's schedules.
There are two classes the  students could choose from:   music or art.
Music class is taught by Jeff Collens.
Art class is taught by UW students.
